About this work

Emil Lederer: Remark on Cost Increases (1920)

This brief official commission discussion intervention distinguishes rising costs from rising wages. Lederer qualifies the attribution of cost increases to wage increases:

Das sind zum Teil auch Kostensteigerungen, die mit Lohnsteigerungen gar nicht zusammenhängen.

English translation: Some of these are also cost increases that have nothing at all to do with wage increases.

“Zum Teil” limits the claim to some increases, while “gar nicht” asserts their complete causal independence from wages. The surviving sentence identifies no alternative causes; its significance lies in resisting an exclusively wage-based explanation of rising costs.
