Emil Lederer · 1920
In this brief recorded commission speaking turn, Lederer characterizes an expropriation proposal as a compromise: immediate expropriation coexists with leaving the works in the former holder’s hands for thirty years.
English translation: This is a compromise. One expropriates today, but leaves him the works for thirty years. Dr. Rathenau’s idea is that he expropriates today, yet does not expropriate, but only after thirty years.
The closing paradox distinguishes nominal action from effective change. Lederer’s intervention exposes the temporal ambiguity of Rathenau’s proposal without developing an alternative.
