Emil Lederer · 1920
In this brief recorded speaking turn, Lederer raises railway finance as an urgent question for the state. Private branch railways throughout Germany are operating at substantial deficits:
Der Staat muß sich mit der Frage beschäftigen, ob er nicht das Defizit übernimmt, weil die Bahnen sonst das Netz bis zum 1. Juli zusperren müssen.
English translation: The state must consider whether it should cover the deficit, because otherwise the railways will have to shut down the network by 1 July.
Lederer thus links private losses to the threatened interruption of transport services. He adds that the Südbahn faces the same situation. The intervention presses for consideration of public financial support without specifying its terms.
