About this work

Emil Lederer: Discussion contribution on coal mining (1920)

In this recorded commission speaking turn, Lederer distinguishes two criteria for interpreting the paragraph under discussion: individually measurable technical performance and the economic return of the mining district.

Wie ich den Paragraphen auffasse, ist zunächst einmal die Leistung, die individuell technisch zu messende Leistung, ob viel oder wenig Tonnen gefördert werden.

English translation: As I understand the paragraph, the first consideration is performance, individually measurable technical performance, whether many or few tonnes are extracted.

District returns, by contrast, depend on how the general director manages operations and allocates costs. Lederer’s intervention separates physical output from managerial accounting, showing why individual production and district profitability require distinct consideration.
