In this brief conference discussion contribution, Schütz asks Wild to clarify the methodological basis of philosophical anthropology:
English translation: I would like to ask Mr. Wild exactly how he situates philosophical anthropology in relation to the natural attitude.
He then asks what reduction is required to proceed from that attitude, sharpening the issue into a choice between two approaches:
English translation: And whether he considers an eidetic reduction of the kind Scheler advocates and employs sufficient, or whether he thinks phenomenological reduction, in Husserl’s strict sense, is necessary?
The intervention thus makes the kind of reduction a decisive methodological question. Schütz requests a distinction and justification; he does not state his own preference or develop an answer.
